ATTORNEY FEES
Attorney fees vary depending on the attorney. An approximate range of fees may be $500.00 to $1,000.00. However, fees can exceed $1,000.00 if the case is unusually complicated or contested by a birth parent.
EXPENSES
The following are common expenses relating to adoptions by relatives:
Filing Fee: The court charges a filing fee in the amount of $94.00.
Criminal records: Most courts require a records search by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (cost $10.00 per name) and the Central Registry of Child Abuse (cost $8.50 per name).
Service of Process: The petition for adoption and notice of adoption must be served on the birth parents. A process server may charge approximately $30.00.
Publication fees: If the birth parent cannot be located, notice of the adoption must be published in a newspaper at an approximate cost of $40.00
